unlocking the fibonacci cryptex
Being the first project in D.ARCH SP, it has allowed me to grasp at the most fundamental things of Architecture. Through this project, I was able to engage and understand the tectonics of architecture at its most fundamental level - the relationship of lines, planes and volumes to express concepts, ideas and forms.
I have also discovered how the control of tectonics allow for unique light and shadow plays that can be casted in space to create distinctive moments in space.

The main design drivers for the cryptex were depth and envelope.
The cryptex aims to convey the idea of an outwards bursting motion through the use of lines, planes and volumes. The concept hinges on the idea that as an object approaches you, details are revealed and the perception of its dimensions changes.
Here, planes lie in the center of the cryptex and extend outwards. Volumes surround the planes and hints at the notion of transformation of a plane to a volume. Using this play of depth and envoloping, an outwards movement is created within the cryptex.
The lines act as a directional guide that informs the observer of the action that is happening. It also creates visual interest within the whole composition.
