CASE STUDY

[tale of] two houses

This case study compares two houses: an international and a local house.

Marie Short House by Glenn Murcutt

Located on a farmland in the Northern Coastal of New Southwales, the Marie Short House design involves 2 almost identical pavilion. One for sleeping, one for living. The use of corrugated steel on the exterior and wood on the interior accentuates the rustic asthethic experiece that Glenn Murcutt was aiming to achieve.

Garlick Avenue House by Kerry Hill

Situated in a quiet suburb of Singapore, the Garlick Avenue House was commisisioned by a professional couple seeking a sanctuary from their busy working lives. Traditional Architectural devices such as the eave, the courtyard, the waterbody and the screens come together to form an assemblage of interconnecting boxes and planes. The play of these spaces creates a sensory experience of the house.
